Discontinued programmes
The programmes below have been discontinued by executive order and can no longer be applied for. The pages stay up because the trade may well live on in companies that work that way.
§ 03 — The path through a vocational programme
From year 9 to journeyman's certificate.
Step by step, in the words of the law and with the section at each step. Sources: the Vocational Education and Training Act and the executive order on vocational education and training.
Check the entry requirement
Enter the grades on the 7-point scale separated by commas: -3, 00, 02, 4, 7, 10 or 12. The exams are the leaving exams in year 9 or the year 10 exams.

The basic course's 1st part
Enter the grades and the check will work it out.
The basic course's 2nd part
Without an agreement you can only start directly on part 2 of the basic course after the end of the year in which you finished year 9 or 10 — or directly after completing part 1.
LBK 381/2026 § 5 a, stk. 1
Access is not the same as admission, and the interview and the overall assessment are the school's. The check does not know the exceptions: a programme may have waived the requirement, and exams from FGU, AVU or other teaching may count. Without an agreement you can be admitted to part 2 of the basic course at most three times.
Your path through a vocational programme
- 01
The leaving exams and the entry requirement
For part 1 of the basic course you must have passed the lower secondary leaving examination with an average of at least 2.0 in Danish and in mathematics in the exams, and an average of at least 2.0 in the latest term grades in Danish and mathematics. If you lack one of the requirements, the school can admit you after an interview or an overall assessment. If you have a training agreement, you have direct access to part 2 of the basic course.
Grade certificate from year 9 or 10
- 02
The basic course's 1st part
Part 1 of the basic course lasts 20 school weeks. The school makes a competence assessment, as a rule within 2 weeks, and a personal education plan together with you, in which you list three programme choices.
Personal training plan
- 03
The basic course's 2nd part
Part 2 lasts up to 20 school weeks and is aimed at the programme you have chosen. It ends with a basic course exam. If you have completed part 1, you have access to part 2 when you apply directly after it.

- 04
The education agreement
The main course requires a training agreement with an approved training company — your apprenticeship. The agreement must be in writing and signed no later than when it begins. The school normally tells you within 4 weeks of receiving the agreement when you are to attend school. The first 3 months of the training period are a probationary period; school stays do not count.
Education agreement
- 05
Without an apprenticeship: school-based training
If you do not have an apprenticeship when the basic course ends, the school must offer school-based training if your programme is on the list of programmes with school-based training. You start 1 month after the end of the basic course, unless you have found an agreement before then. The suitability requirements — including actively seeking an apprenticeship — apply throughout the school-based training.
Training statement (issued by the school)
LBK 381/2026 §§ 66 a og 66 c; BEK 1671/2025 § 125, stk. 2 (bilag 6) og § 88, stk. 5 ↗
- 06
The main course: school and training in turn
Vocational programmes are sandwich programmes: you alternate between school periods and training in the company. After each training period the company issues a training statement to you and the school, describing what you have done and whether you have reached the objectives.
Training statement · Personal education plan (updated)
- 07
The final training statement
When the training period is over, the company issues the final training statement to you, the school and the trade committee. It may contain information for use in entering you for the journeyman's test.
Final training declaration
- 08
The final test
The programme ends with an exam if the rules for the programme say so — as a journeyman's test held by the trade committee, or as an exam in the last school period. The exam takes place before the agreement expires, as a rule no earlier than 3 months before.
Journeyman's test or final school exam
- 09
The education certificate
When the school certificate and the final training statement have been issued and any journeyman's test has been passed, you receive your education certificate. If the trade committee issues it, it is called a journeyman's certificate and comes on paper; if the school issues it, it arrives digitally in your e-Boks.

Coming: EPX (political agreement, not law)
The agreement on a new vocationally and professionally oriented upper secondary programme (EPX) of 18 February 2025 proposes that part 1 of the basic course, EUX and the two-year HF be abolished as separate programmes, and that part 2 of the basic course be shortened from 20 to 12 school weeks for students who already hold a qualification giving access to higher education. The ambition is for the first students to start in August 2030. No bill has been tabled yet, so until then the rules above apply.
