The craft in action

Truck loaded with pallets

The driver operates the forklift with fully raised forks and stacks the pallet over the truck's open loading deck where two pallets already stand. The movement arrow shows the stacking and the securing eyes along the load edge await the cargo straps afterward.

Strapping of Load with Tensioning Straps

The driver tightens three top-over cargo straps over the load and secures them in eyes at both load edges. The scrap tension indicator on the middle strap is tightened and the tension indicator changes to tight — the actual number of cargo straps is calculated in the load securing calculator.

Daily inspection — brakes and tyres

Before departure the driver checks the twin rear wheels with a tire pressure gauge and inspects tread and pressure. The checklist verifies tires, brakes, lights, and fluids with checkmarks — a routine that catches faults before the vehicle rolls out.

Come home in the same state

Overview

A driving license for truck (category C) is a commercial driving license that gives you permission to drive large vehicles and transport goods professionally. With the right credentials you become a goods driver and can work for hauliers, transport companies, construction sites and distribution centers across the country. It's a craft in itself to maneuver a heavy vehicle safely in traffic — and it's a skill that's needed every single day.

What do you do in everyday life?

As a professional driver you plan routes, load and secure goods, keep track of papers and deliver on time. You work independently behind the wheel but are constantly part of a larger logistics chain. Some days are fixed routes, other days are new addresses and customers. You have responsibility for an expensive vehicle and a valuable cargo — and for everything happening safely and legally along the way.

  • 01You learn to operate and maneuver a large vehicle safely in city traffic and on highways.
  • 02You get on top of cargo securing, so goods do not move or fall off
  • 03You understand the driving and rest time rules that protect you and others in traffic
  • 04You become skilled at reading and using transport documents correctly
  • 05You get a competence that is in demand across the entire transport industry
  • 06You work independently and have freedom and responsibility behind the wheel

How do you get started?

The commercial driving licence is typically taken through an AMU course from an approved provider, and there are requirements for age and health, and you must already have an ordinary driving licence. The course combines theory and practical driving and concludes with a test. Many take it as an entry into a job as a driver, and some go on to build further with qualifications that make them even more versatile on the labour market.

Way forward

When you have a C driving license you can expand with category C/E (truck with trailer) take ADR certificate for dangerous goods or specialize in specific forms of transport. Experience behind the wheel can also lead to roles as route manager dispatcher or independent haulier. “When goods must get moving, it's the driver who gets the wheels rolling—without the load that gets safely through, society stands still.”
