ESG in service work — what you document
Consumption, ecolabels and waste: the figures a service assistant can deliver
Introduction
The subject «Indoor climate and sustainable service» says the student can use basic knowledge of ESG to help document and report sustainable initiatives in service work. ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance.
The E in ESG: consumption you can count
| Numbers | How it is calculated | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning product per m² | All ordinary cleaning agents and detergents in one year (incl. the water in the product) divided by the m² cleaned | The Nordic Swan Ecolabel: max. 300 µl/m² |
| Share of eco-labelled products | Ecolabelled products in relation to all ordinary cleaning products, washing products and window cleaning products | The Nordic Swan Ecolabel: at least 90% |
| Waste sorted into fractions | The amount in each of the ten fractions in annex 6 of the executive order on waste | What share goes to recycling |
Example
A service team uses 1,200 litres of cleaning agents in a year and cleans 5,000,000 m². 1,200 L ÷ 5,000,000 m² = 240 µl/m². That is below the Nordic Swan Ecolabel's 300 µl/m². The figures are made up for the exercise, but the calculation is the one the Swan uses.
