Criteria version 4 for Nordic Swan Ecolabelled cleaning services came into force on 18 November 2024 and today applies as version 4.2. Chemical consumption is cut to max. 300 µl/m², the share of ecolabelled agents is raised to 90 %, and all new vehicles must be electric/hybrid or bio-/natural gas. Here is what it means in practice.
Introduction
The Swan Label (the Nordic environmental label) has since November 2024 a new version (generation 4) of the criteria for cleaning services and window polishing. Already certified companies must document that they meet the stricter requirements, otherwise they lose the right to use the label.
The most important changes (version 4 — now 4.2 — valid until 1 Dec. 2029)
| Requirement | Old level | New level |
|---|---|---|
| Chemistry consumption per m² cleaned | Max. 400 µl cleaning agent/m² | Max. 300 µl cleaning agent/m² |
| Share of eco-labeled cleaning/washing agents | At least 80% | At least 90% |
| Tissue and toilet paper | No specific requirement | 100 % must be ecolabelled |
| Transport (energy consumption) | Previous level (approx. 10% higher) | Max. 70 kWh / approx. 8.1 L petrol per 100 km |
| New vehicles (purchase/leasing) | No requirements | Electric/hybrid or biogas/natural gas. |
Furthermore there are new requirements to reduce plastic bag consumption and lower water consumption in the production of modified water for window cleaning.
What it means in practice
- 01Reducer dosage – 300 µl/m² requires precise dosing with measuring equipment or dosing system.
- 02Review the range — max. 10% of cleaning/washing agents must be without environmental label.
- 03Change tissue and toilet paper — the 100% requirement applies to everything in this category.
- 04Plan how the metal should flow in and fill the mould
