Many think a vocational education is a dead end if you later want to go further. That is not true. A journeyman's certificate as a gut technician is a solid professional foundation and on top of that there are several paths — both within the industry and further into the education system. Here are some of the directions you can take.
§The way towards leadership in the industry
With a few years' experience and routine in the trade the path can lead towards becoming a form of team leader — the one who coordinates a pipe technician crew and is responsible for production running. It is a natural development for many skilled workers: you know the trade inside out and that makes you a credible leader for those working at the machines.
§Shorter courses and further education
You can continuously keep your skills sharp and expand them with short courses — for example in hygiene, food safety, machine operation, or working environment. That kind of further education keeps you updated as requirements and technology change, and it can be a step toward more responsibility.
§Higher educations in food and process technology
If you want to move further away from machines and closer to planning and development, a vocational education can give access to certain higher-level qualifications. Within the food field there are among other things educations in process, laboratory and food technology that qualify to work with production, development and control in the food industry.
