Welding
MIG/MAG-svejsemaskineUsed to weld plates and profiles together into stairs, railings, frames and machine parts. Smiths often take their welding certificate in precisely this process.
Stick welder (MMA)Used to weld structures and repairs where MIG/MAG cannot reach, e.g. during installation work and on thick steel. A fundamental welding process on the programme.
TIG welderUsed when the weld needs to be neat and precise, e.g. on stainless steel, aluminium and visible structures. Part of the smith's welding training.
Chipping hammer and wire brushUsed after each run in MMA welding: the slag must be removed before the next run is laid, otherwise the weld gets slag inclusions. A stainless brush is used only on stainless steel.

Leather welding apronWorn over work clothing during welding and grinding to protect against showers of sparks and glowing metal fragments.
Hearing protectionWorn for grinding, cutting and other noisy work. The employer must provide hearing protection for noise above 80 dB(A), and it must be used above 85 dB(A) (Arbejdstilsynet's noise rules).
Respiratory protection for welding fumesWelding fumes are carcinogenic, and under Arbejdstilsynet's rules the fumes must be removed at source (local exhaust ventilation); respiratory protection is used as a supplement where extraction is insufficient, e.g. during installation and in confined spaces.
