Indoor climate, plants and pests
What the law requires of the room, the importance of cleaning and what you do when you see a rat
Introduction
The subject «Indoor climate and sustainable service» takes up 10 school days in company service. The sub-objectives say the student can use knowledge of legislation and requirements for indoor climate, help create a healthy indoor climate with a focus on the importance of cleaning, look after common indoor plants and help prevent common pests and parasites.
What the law requires of the room
The executive order on the design of permanent workplaces (BEK no. 607/2026) sets requirements that are directly linked to your work:
| Paragraph | The requirement |
|---|---|
| § 7 | It must be possible to clean and maintain the building properly. |
| § 28 | Floors, walls and ceilings must be able to be cleaned effectively. |
| § 30 | The furniture must be easy to keep clean. |
| § 31 | The temperature must suit the work and be without disturbing differences. |
| § 34 | If windows and doors do not provide enough fresh air, there must be mechanical ventilation. |
Cleaning and indoor climate
Dust in the air and on surfaces is part of the indoor climate. Use a vacuum cleaner with a good filter — in hospitals and institutions NIR requires effective HEPA filtration — and remove dust with a damp method instead of stirring it up. Avoid spraying cleaning products into the air: NFA advises against it because the droplets are inhaled.
Rats: you must report it
The Rat Executive Order says: «Anyone who discovers the presence of rats must immediately report this to the municipal council». That also applies to you. The municipality investigates the matter no later than 8 days after the report. The owner must secure the property and keep it clean.
Plants
The sub-objective says you must be able to look after and care for common indoor plants with a view to their well-being and the indoor climate. Follow the plant's care instructions for water, light and fertiliser, and pass it on if a plant is not thriving.
