Machines
Industrial sewing machine for sailclothThe sailmaker's most important machine — used to sew new sails and repair tears and wear where an ordinary household machine cannot pull the heavy materials.
Materials

Copper rivets and roves (clinker nails)The boatbuilder drives the rivet through plank and rove and peens the end over the rove with a riveting hammer and dolly, so the joint becomes watertight and flexible enough to follow the hull's movements - the classic technique in clinker building.
Wooden trenails/dowels (for clinker building)Used to lock tenon joints and reinforce glued joints in frames, stems and deck beams, where a hidden, non-corroding treenail fixing is preferable to metal fittings.
