Specialties and career in office work
Public, economy, audit, law, and forwarding
Office education is one of the broadest vocational educations and is divided into specialties. You choose a direction but the basis — overview, communication and systematicity — is the same everywhere.
§Public administration
Here you work in a municipality, region or state institution with citizen service, case processing and administration. You help citizens and ensure that cases are processed correctly according to the rules. It is a profession of great importance to how people experience the public sector.
§Private administration and finance
In the private sector you can work with administration, HR, procurement or accounting. If you choose the accounting specialty, you work with bookkeeping, invoices, payments and reconciliations. Here, accuracy with figures is absolutely crucial.
§Law office secretary and freight forwarding
Other specialties lead you to, for example, law offices, where you assist lawyers with cases and documents, or freight and shipping, where you work with transport, cargo, and logistics. Each specialty has its own professional discipline on top of the administrative foundation.
| Specialty | Work area | Important strength |
|---|---|---|
| Public administration | Citizen service and administration | Objectivity and service |
| Private administration | Operation, HR, procurement | Overview |
| Finances | Bookkeeping and payments | Accuracy with numbers |
| Law office secretary | Legal matters and documents | Precision |
§The way forward
Many office-trained people further train later at college or diploma level within, for example, administration, economics, HR or management. The trade provides a solid foundation, and because it exists in all industries, you have great freedom to choose where you want to go.
