Machines and vehicles
ForkliftThe key work vehicle in the trade. The student must obtain forklift certificate B and uses the truck daily to load, unload and move goods at the terminal.

Crane (terminal crane / mobile crane)Used to load and unload heavy goods and containers from ships — a core task in port work. The apprentice learns correct slinging and signalling during crane lifts.
Reach stackerUsed at the terminal to stack and move containers in the depot, where an ordinary forklift lacks the capacity or reach.
Terminal tractor (yard truck)Moves chassis with containers between quay, depot and gate terminal at high speed - not driven on public roads.
Container chassis (trailer)The container is lifted onto the chassis and driven to/from the quay or out onto the public road network - available in several lengths for different container sizes.

Havneudstyr
Quay fender (rubber fender)A fixed part of the port's infrastructure - protects quay and vessel during berthing and mooring, and something the dock worker checks for damage at every port call.
Mooring hawserUsed at every port call to moor the ship safely to the quay - the dock worker takes the line from the ship and places the eye over the bollard.
