Rules, journeyman test and papers on the subject
Regulations, journeyman certificates and certificates you meet
Introduction
Although you do not need personal authorisation to sew clothes — as an electrician or plumber does to work legally — clothing craftsperson is still a tightly regulated qualification. The rules are about what you must learn how you are tested and what your certificate is worth.
The education announcement
The framework of the education is laid down in an executive order issued by the Ministry of Education, while goals, subjects and forms of examination are set out in the training regulations. Both are updated from time to time, so it is always the current version that counts — not an old edition you happen to come across.
The trade council
Behind the Education Stands a Professional Committee, Where Employers and Employees Together Set Goals and Frameworks. The Committee Reports to Industry Education and Ensures that What You Learn in School and During Your Apprenticeship Matches What the Industry Really Needs.
The journeyman's exam and the journeyman certificate
The education ends with a journeyman test where you show that you master the trade — from pattern and design to the finished sewing. If you pass you receive your journeyman certificate which is the official proof that you are qualified. It is your journeyman certificate that opens doors in the job market and gives access to further education.
Certificates along the way
Depending on your workplace and the machines you work with, you may encounter requirements for smaller certificates or instructions — for example, in the safe use of certain equipment. These are not profession-specific authorizations, but practical proof that you are allowed and able to operate the equipment safely.
“Your journeyman certificate is not just a piece of paper — it is the documentation that an entire industry stands behind your craft.”
