Kraner og løftemaskiner
Overhead travelling crane (bridge crane)The central machine on the basic crane course (overhead and gantry crane) at AMU SYD. You learn to operate it, move loads smoothly with simultaneous functions and stop a swinging load safely.
Gantry craneThe second main crane on the basic crane course. Used for lifts outdoors and in halls without suitable ceiling support; same operation and slinging as an overhead crane.
Truck-mounted craneThe core of AMU SYD's course in mobile cranes (8-30 tonne-metres). You learn set-up, deploying the outriggers, operation and lawful lifting in the open.
Trailer-mounted cranePart of the mobile crane course as an alternative to the lorry-mounted one; same requirements for set-up, stability and slinging.
Outriggers (stabilisers)Laid out correctly before lifting with a mobile crane so the crane does not overturn. A crucial part of the stability assessment on the mobile crane course.

Lifting chain (chain sling set)Used where slings and round slings won't hold — e.g. with heat, sharp edges or very heavy loads. Steel chain is rated with a safety factor of 4.
Steel wire rope (wire sling)Used for robust slinging of heavy loads. Steel wire rope is calculated with a safety factor of 5 and must be discarded when a certain number of wires have broken.
ShacklesThe connecting piece in slinging. Only lifting-approved shackles (not galvanised commercial shackles) may be used for lifting; calculated with safety factor 4.

Edge protector for strapsProtects webbing slings and round slings against being cut on sharp steel edges — textile gear can be cut through under load if the edge is unprotected. A fixed part of the slinger's toolbox.
Kommunikation og sikkerhed
Hand signals / signallingTrained on both crane courses so the operator and slinger can work together safely. Used together with radio over longer distances and in tandem lifts.
Radio communication (headset)Used as an alternative or supplement to hand signals — especially for tandem lifts with two cranes and for large, hard-to-oversee lifts.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)Worn for all work around suspended loads and cranes on building sites, in industry and in ports to protect against falling objects and crush injuries.
Tag lineKeeps long, wind-catching loads steady without anyone needing their hands on the load or standing beneath it. Used together with signalling when installing elements and beams.

Wind gauge (anemometer)Used to decide whether a lift can go ahead: the manufacturer's wind limits in the load chart apply per boom configuration, and loads that catch the wind require further reduction (cf. the EN 13000 rule of 1.2 m² wind area per tonne).
