The main rule is 18 to obtain a forklift certificate, with an exception from age 15 while in a qualifying vocational programme. You must be medically fit, and if you drive where the Road Traffic Act applies you also need at least a tractor driving licence.
Introduction
The rules on age and health ensure that the operator can run the forklift safely. They are simple, but important to have in order before you sign up for a certificate course.
Age
- 01Main rule: the certificate can only be issued to persons aged 18 or over (BEK 1978/2021 § 23, subsection 1).
- 02Exception: young people aged 15 or over can get the certificate to the extent that it is a necessary part of vocational training, and if it is necessary for the specific programme (§ 23, subsection 2).
Health
You must be medically fit to drive the truck. This is documented »either with a driving licence or the health declaration given in connection with the issue of a driving licence« (BEK 1978/2021 § 22, subsection 2, no. 2).
