Machine scrubbing with a scrubber dryer

Choose the right pad — and take care with acid-sensitive floors

On large hard floors, a scrubber-dryer washes and collects the water in one pass. The result depends on choosing the right pad or brush and a chemical that suits the floor type. The guide covers the abrasiveness of the pad colours and the operation itself.

  1. Choose the machine according to the task

A floor scrubber/scrubber-dryer is suitable for large hard floors and washes + collects water in one pass. Choose the size according to the area and the space available — a machine that is too large cannot get under and around furniture.

  2. Match the pad colour to the task

The pad colour typically indicates the abrasiveness, from mildest to strongest: white = polishing, red = light cleaning/spray buffing, blue = scrubbing/washing, green = heavy scrubbing, black = aggressive stripping. Choose the mildest pad that does the job.

    Mildest → strongestwhite · red · blue · green · black
  3. Protect acid-sensitive floors

Acid-sensitive floors (natural stone, marble, limestone) cannot tolerate strongly alkaline chemicals combined with an aggressive pad. Always match pad and chemicals to the floor type — the pad supplier's data sheet states the abrasiveness and chemical compatibility.

Never an aggressive pad + strong chemicals on natural stone/marble.

  4. Sweep or dry-mop first

Remove loose dirt, grit and hair before running the machine. Grit under a rotating pad scratches the floor and wears the pad unnecessarily — and the machine is for washing, not for picking up loose debris.

  5. Dose and fill correctly

Fill the clean water tank with correctly dosed working solution (see the dosing guide) and empty/clean the dirty water tank before starting. Too much chemical leaves films and slippery floors; too little gives poor cleaning.

  6. Scrub and collect in overlapping passes

Work in straight, overlapping passes so that the pad and squeegee cover the whole floor without streaks. The squeegee behind the machine must pick up the water so that the floor is dry afterwards — do not go faster than the water can be sucked up.

  7. Finish, clean the machine and cordon off

Empty and rinse the recovery tank, clean the squeegee and pad, and leave the tanks to dry with the lids open so no odour develops. If necessary, mark the damp floor with a sign until it is completely dry.
