Heat pumps — COP, SCOP and the DKK 27,000 subsidy pool.

How to calculate efficiency, and what the subsidy covers in 2026

2026-06-16·8 min reading

The heat pump is the core of green heat transition. COP measures instantaneous efficiency, SCOP measures efficiency over the entire heating season according to EN 14825. And in 2026 the Heat Pump Pool provides a fixed subsidy of 27,000 kr. per household. Here are the figures and conditions.

Introduction

A heat pump moves heat from the surroundings (air, ground or groundwater) into the house instead of burning fuel. Therefore it can deliver more kWh heat than it uses in electricity — efficiency is described with COP and SCOP.

COP and SCOP

Flow temperature is critical

  • 01The lower the inlet temperature, the higher the SCOP – that's why heat pumps are best suited to underfloor heating and large radiators.
  • 02With underfloor heating a max. supply flow of approx. 40 °C is recommended together with a heat pump (indicative).
  • 03Switching from a gas boiler → heat pump typically yields a 40–50 % lower heating bill per year (Source: greenmatch.dk — indicative).
