Window cleaning with washer and squeegee

Clean glass without streaks — green zone

Window cleaning belongs to high-level cleaning (green zone). With an applicator, a rubber squeegee/wiper and a telescopic pole, you can clean windows streak-free and reach high glass without a ladder. The guide covers equipment, technique and finishing.

  1. Gather the right equipment

You need a washer (to wet and loosen dirt), a squeegee/wiper (to remove the water) and a telescopic pole for high windows. The telescopic pole reduces the need for ladders and makes the work both faster and safer.

  2. Use green (glass) equipment

In the widely used Danish model, glass and mirrors belong to the green zone (high-level cleaning). Use green cloths/tools for glass surfaces so you keep the equipment separate from sanitary areas (red) and kitchen (yellow) and avoid cross-contamination.

  3. Wash the pane with the applicator

Wet the applicator in the working solution and wash the whole pane so dirt and grease are loosened. Go over edges and corners extra, where dirt collects. The pane must be evenly wet before you squeegee.

  4. Pull the water off with the squeegee in a fixed pattern

Squeegee the water off from top to bottom or in an overlapping S pattern, so that each stroke covers a little of the previous one. Keep an even angle and even pressure so that the rubber pulls off cleanly without leaving streaks.

Overlap each squeegee stroke slightly, so no streaks are left behind.

  5. Dry the rubber between strokes

Wipe the rubber blade with a clean, dry cloth after each stroke (or as needed). A wet or dirty rubber edge drags water and dirt back onto the pane and leaves streaks.

  6. Wipe the edge and frame, and inspect

Wipe the water edge along the bottom of the pane and the frame with a dry cloth so no water runs down and forms new streaks. Inspect the pane against the light and correct small faults with the edge of a dry cloth.
