INSTA 800 visual quality inspection

Object groups, types of soiling and assemblies

DS/INSTA 800 measures the result — how clean it is AFTER cleaning — not the frequency. The guide shows how to carry out a visual inspection of an inspection unit: the four object groups, the six types of soiling, counting the items and accept/reject against the figures in your own licence.

  1. Define the inspection unit

An inspection unit is an area of up to 100 m² that is inspected as a whole. Divide the total area into units (Discebo's calculator «INSTA 800 inspection units» helps) so that you know how many units need to be inspected.

    Inspection unit≤ 100 m²
  2. Confirm the agreed quality level

The standard uses 5 quality levels (1 = lowest, 5 = highest), which are chosen according to the room's function — an office typically requires a lower level than a laboratory. The inspection is measured against the level agreed with the customer in the cleaning plan.

  3. Get the sample size and Ac/Re from the licence

For sampling inspection, AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) is used with an acceptance number (Ac) and a rejection number (Re). These tables are licence-protected by Dansk Standard and are not reproduced in open documents — read the sample size and Ac/Re from your own licence according to the agreed level.

  4. Go through the four object groups

Each room is divided into four object groups that are assessed separately: furniture and fittings, walls, floor and ceiling. Go through the sample systematically, group by group, so that nothing is overlooked.

  5. Record the six types of soiling

On each object group, look for six types of soiling: litter (can be picked up), loose dirt (particles that cannot simply be swept/wiped away), dust (fine layer that can be stirred up), stains (dry/stuck-on soiling), surface dirt (dirt over an undefined area) and accumulations.

  6. Count joints within 0.5 × 0.5 m

An accumulation is a concentration of the same type of soiling within a defined area of 0.5 × 0.5 m of an object group. Count accumulations separately for each object group — they are included in the assessment alongside the other types of soiling.

  7. Approve or reject

Compare the number of findings with Ac and Re from the licence: if the number is ≤ the acceptance number (Ac), the unit is approved; if it reaches the rejection number (Re), it is rejected. A rejected unit triggers a full re-clean and a new inspection.

  8. Document in the QA log

Record the date, the inspector's name, inspection unit, agreed level, findings per object group/type of soiling, result and corrective action in the QA log. The log is the documentation for the customer and must be available in the event of a complaint.
