Modular road trains of 25.25 m are permitted on certain routes in Denmark. Here is what sets them apart from normal road trains (18.75 m / articulated vehicle 17.88 m), what they require, and what happens at a border crossing.
Introduction
Since the modular road train scheme was introduced, specific truck combinations up to 25.25 m and — with 8 or more axles — up to 64 tonnes actual gross weight may run on the designated road network in Denmark. That is significantly more than the normal limits, and special requirements apply.
Comparison with normal limits (BEK 1447/2025)
| Type | Max. length | Max. total weight | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Truck (motor-driven) | 12,00 m | Op til 42.000 kg (5+ aksler) | § 8 + § 21 |
| Articulated vehicle (car + trailer) | 18,75 m | 56.000 kg (7+ aksler; 58.000 fra 1/1-2027) | § 11 + § 21 |
| Articulated lorry (tractor and semi-trailer) | 17.88 m | — | § 10 |
| Modular road train | 25,25 m | 64,000 kg (8+ axles; above 58,000 kg requires at least 19.0 m between the front and rear axle) · 7 axles 58,000 kg from 1/1/2027 · 6 axles 53,000 kg | BEK 1491/2025, sections 7-8 |
