A checklist for handing over a finished paving: fall, evenness, joint filling and edges — so the work lasts and is handed over without defects. The figures follow NfA 1992 and DS 1136.
Introduction
Before a patio, path or driveway is handed over, it is reviewed systematically. Use this checklist together with the project's tender documents — it gathers the most important control points for a paved surface.
Fall and drainage
- 01Fall at least 10 ‰ (1 cm/m) for slabs/paving stones — industry recommendation 15 ‰ on patios (NfA 1992).
- 02Fall away from the house, not towards it — check especially at the basement and the façade.
- 03No ponding: pour water on, or check with a straightedge and spirit level.
- 04Gutters and drains have a fall (at least 5 ‰) and are free of standing water.
Evenness and levels
- 01Evenness checked with a 3 m straightedge — no visible steps between pavers.
- 02Levels match the adjoining paving, gratings, manholes and door thresholds (lawn ±30 mm, ±5 mm at buildings/hardstanding, NfA 1992).
